Genesis, June 11: a date to remember

1977, at the Sports Palace in Paris begins a series of five concerts which will be recorded and which will be part (except The Cinema Show inserted in the previous year's version) of the double live album Seconds Out.

Phil Collins - lead vocals, drums, percussion;

Steve Hackett - lead guitars, effects;

Mike Rutherford - bass guitar, guitars, bass pedals, backing vocals;

Tony Banks - keyboards, 12 strings guitar, backing vocals;

Chester Thompson - drums, percussion.

On June 12 the show is double, while on the 13th a part of the concert is recorded by the French Radio RTL. here are the 42 minutes aired (note that, at about 38 minutes, Phil Collins does not remember the words of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, but immediately resumes the thread of the verse):

The show on June 14th supplies much of the material to Seconds Out. There he is:

But Genesis don't know that these are the last concerts with this formation. Steve Hackett has already decided to leave the band. As had happened with Peter Gabriel, at the height of success and consensus, a defection arrives. Look at the press review of this period.

A week earlier, the Genesis had undergone a zero date in front of 250 guests at the Brussels Expo Center. Here are the videos of that general rehearsal.

To insiders the band immediately looks a little rusty and it is evident that he needed to slow down or simplify some steps. But the tour will eventually be a success.

With the Turn It On Again Tour (which touched Rome on July 14), however the curtain has fallen on the glorious history of the Genesis live.
