It was recorded by pianists Adam Kromelow and Angelo Di Loreto at the Charterhouse School in Godalming, UK - the college where Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips gave birth to Genesis.
Recorded and mixed by Stefano Riccò with the mobile studio of Studio Esagono and the logistical support of Nigel Sanders, "Genesis Piano Project" is a tribute to the progressive music of Genesis which here are rearranged and performed on a classical piano: songs with complex sound structures , able to pass from whispered melodies, which evoke bucolic or disturbing landscapes, to strongly rock sections. Listening to the arrangements of the Genesis Piano Project sometimes makes you think you are at a classical music concert, other times you are in front of a real rock band.
"It was difficult to decide which songs to record - says Adam Kromelow - because we probably had enough material for two albums! We wanted to have songs from different records in order to find the right balance to showcase the wide dynamic range of their work. The hope is that listeners will be able to discover this music in a new way by listening to it performed on two pianos ».
Below is the tracklist of the album:
1. The Fountain Of Salmacis
2. One For The Vine
3. Seven Stones
6. Firth Of Fifth / Supper's Ready
7. For Absent Friends / Horizons
8. The Cinema Show
«I am very excited to share this work with Genesis fans around the world. This album - continues Adam - will forever be one of the most significant recordings of my life because it will always carry hundreds of good memories of my best friend Angelo. I am really happy that, through this album, Angelo's music will continue to bring joy to people ".
The Genesis Piano Project was born when the two pianists Angelo Di Loreto, born in Buffalo, and Adam Kromelow, born in Chicago, found themselves in the same class at the Manhattan School of Music.
When Adam played Angelo with the music of the British progressive-rock group Genesis, they had the idea of rearranging their revolutionary compositions for two pianos.
This project immediately captured both Genesis fans and new listeners, through concerts in Steinway Piano showrooms and galleries across the United States. Their videos soon achieved international recognition and have amassed over a million views today.
In mid-2014, Giovanni Amighetti, a producer who has worked with many artists on Peter Gabriel's Real World Records label, discovered the Genesis Piano Project online and offered to take them to Europe for their first overseas tour.
Since then, the duo have regularly toured Europe, performing critically acclaimed concerts in Rome, Catania, Milan, Schio, Parma, Montreal, Porto, Lisbon, the Madeira Islands and the Azores.
In 2015 the Genesis Piano Project released their first live EP entitled “Live in Italy”. After Angelo's untimely death in October 2020, Adam is continuing the Genesis Piano Project as a soloist in memory of his friend.
