Horizons Radio interviewed Real Dream before the Milanese event:
Horizons Radio: In February, celebrate one year from the first live of the new formation. What have been the satisfactions of these 12 months?
Paolo Tenerini: "This 2019 has been incredible ... From that February 9th at Carignano theater in Genoa (my debut as a singer of REAL DREAM) was all a succession of emotions, concerts, constant study of the songs, new ideas for live and above all ... an incredible avalanche of affection from the public!
We did not expect it at the beginning, but it was a constant crescendo, which continues and which surprises us every day: just think of the birth of our fan club on the initiative of Filippo Gaggero, one of ours fan di Chiavari, a very lucky initiative that is making our audience grow day by day.
As for me then, let me say that Richard Macphail's words, at the end of our GENESIS LIVE in Savignone, I will never forget them! "
Can you reveal them to us?
Paolo Tenerini: "Ok ... Richard said to me: 'You don't sing like Peter ... you have Peter's soul inside you ..!'"
How and in what do you think you grew up in this period?
Paolo Tenerini: “The feeling and the harmony between the members. After I joined the group it was necessary to create a new team and, like the players train, but then it is on the pitch that you can see if they are close-knit, we needed to test ourselves with many live, which fortunately have arrived. Thanks to live concerts, the feelingin fact, both personal and human as well as musical and technical among us. "
You started i live with very few effects and costumes on stage. Then there was an evolution. How and why?
Paolo Tenerini: “I must say that I was very helped by Paolo Viccinelli, who convinced me, by overcoming my initial resistance, to dare. In some songs I use masks similar to those that Peter Gabriel wore, as in finale of 'The Musical Box' one of the most exciting points of our show, even in Milan.
But Paolo convinced me to use very simple masks, however very evocative also in other passages. Masks that we created, such as those in 'Get'Em Out By Friday' or in 'The Fountain of Salmacis'. I was a little intimidated at the beginning, but the public, in front of these innovations, reacted in a truly superior way to our expectations.
Because, together with my gestures functional to the song, the mask explains even better what the song tells. That's why there has been an evolution, also from this point of view.
What challenges have you set for the Band's next year?
Andrea Orlando: “The first challenge we set ourselves is that of make the band known abroad. It is not easy because, despite the fundamental role that i have social, name and activity live they inevitably have more visibility on the national territory. However, our goal is to broaden our range of action, because we are convinced that, even outside Italy, the group is able to arouse the interest of the public.
The other challenge is to try to always improve, in terms of individual technique and collective performance. We think that, working steadily, over the years we have achieved good results, and the response of the public has gradually grown, but we believe it is important never to settle down, and not to stop wondering if we can achieve ever higher goals.
The ambition, when it is not accompanied by the competitiveness of the individual, but is felt as the need to make the group grow as a whole, is in our opinion one of the most important aspects in the life of the group itself. "
The ladder has always been in evolution. How did you transform it?
Andrea Orlando: “For now, our repertoire mainly concerns the Gabriel era, but for the future we are thinking of proposing also a set of the following period. We have so far proposed two different shows: the first, which we have called "Genesis Dream", proposes probably the most loved songs of the golden age of Genesis. Within this set, however, we try to alternate, in each concert, the different songs that we have in the repertoire (and that cover most of the period '70 / 74), and propose every time set list different.
The second show that we present is the complete re-presentation of 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway', an undertaking as demanding as it is fascinating and suggestive. We think that many Genesis fans are particularly attached, like us, to this extraordinary and complex work, and we hope that hearing it in full live can be as gratifying for the spectators as it is for us to perform it.
In some cases, then, we propose a mixed lineup, which includes a selection of pieces from 'The Lamb' in the first part, and some pieces from the historical period in the second part. "
And how will it change further, in which direction?
Andrea Orlando: “In the coming months we will work on two new shows, which will alternate with the previous ones we talked about, because, as we said, one of the principles we follow is precisely to diversify our proposal as much as possible live, for the public that follows us, but also to measure ourselves with always different songs, always looking for new 'challenges', on the executive and interpretative level. For now, we prefer not to reveal details about these new lines ... but we can say that from next year there will be some big surprises for those who follow us! "
Do you ever quarrel about the songs to put on the lineup (as Genesis did in the composition of the albums)?
Tiziano Tacchella: "The construction of every single set of pieces is often a source of discussion in the band, because you have to find a way to tease the public with novelties, trying never to be banal or obvious, but there have never been any quarrels about it. The harmony that reigns between us, also for the fact that we are a group of friends as well as musicians, ensures that the right compromise is always found between personal tastes (yes, each of us also has his own favorite pieces) and the audience we are going to entertain; let's say that so far this marriage has always worked. "
On January 11 you start the new year with an important date in Milan.
Paolo Tenerini: "We consider the Milan date fundamental and therefore, as a coach for the final of Champions League tries to field the best team, we want the Milanese public, who sees us for the first time, to have a show with the best of what we know how to do.
In the first part I will take on the role of Rael and we will perform some mythical pieces of 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway', then, in the second part, we will return to the previous songs, taken from 'Nursery Cryme', 'Foxtrot' and Selling England by the Pound '.
Then you will have other important dates such as Verona and Turin. How does the audience respond to your live performances?
Tiziano Tacchella: "If we play in the most beautiful and important Italian cities, it really is thanks to the continuous request of ours fans who shudder to get to know us personally and because they want to appreciate ours performance live; for a year now we have been getting to know us all over Italy thanks to the videos that are being played on social, dozens every day subscribe to our Facebook pages to appreciate the interpretation of the songs that we offer, but attending one of our concerts directly in the theater or in large squares is certainly more rewarding. During the live, between the public and the band, the right empathy is established and one fully enjoys the original theatricality of ours front man Paolo Tenerini. "
You are among the very few to have a real one fan club. How does it feel?
Tiziano Tacchella: “The fan club of Real Dream, a real one Team born spontaneously from the passion of President Filippo Gaggero, he initially took us by surprise because at our levels it is not a common thing, but it is extremely gratifying because the transport with which we are followed is truly equal to the commitment that we put into reproducing music.
We know we can count on the group of RealDreamers as if they were the sixth member of the band, offer us ideas and developments that we had not thought of, follow us at every concert, organize wonderful evenings, actively participate in our growth and we will never stop thanking them for the work they do every day for us. "
Among other Genesis Tribute Band which one do you value most?
Paolo Viccinelli: “I have always said that in music and especially in music Tribute Band Genesis, there is room for everyone. Who is really passionate about the music of our great masters usually (with some exceptions), is a positive and proactive musician, and looks with sincere interest and admiration who proposes to play this extraordinary music.
There are Tribute Genesis worldwide and many are at an extraordinary level of quality. For decades, the Canadian Musical Box professionals have been surprising the foreign Tributes for musical quality and historicity of the theatrical and scenic offer. But Argentine Genetics are also very good.
In Europe there are Tribute band good and interesting, especially for the Collinsian period of Genesis, but I feel a little cold. Being able to express warmth and emotions in one live it is not for everyone and the right notes for a nice homework are not enough, it takes more, a quid particular, or if you want, a warm magic that envelops the audience and those who play, in a circle of emotions.
In Italy I can mention The Watch in Milan and Supper's Ready in Bolzano, two excellent bands with extraordinary musicians.
Real Dream have always offered themselves with warmer music and a non-photocopied theatrical proposal by Genesis, but which draws directly from our Italian musical history. In one concept we can say that we Real Dreams interpret the pieces with passion and warmth, remaining historically faithful to the musical themes of Genesis. "
I REAL DREAM (Genesis Tribute Band) were born in Genoa in 1996 and are immediately appreciated for their Live dedicated to the Genesis of the Peter Gabriel period.
Over the years the band has gone through various vicissitudes and collects numerous awards, among which the Live of Genoa stands out in the presence of Steve hackett in 2012, (during which the legendary Genesis guitarist rewards the "colleague" Real Dream Tiziano Tacchella with a plaque) and in August 2019 the Sold Out of Savignone (GE), in the presence of Richard McPhail e Mino Perfume.
With the entry of the new singer in 2018 e front man Paolo Tenerini, the Genoese band has found a new "theatricality", creating live new atmospheres and moments of great suggestion, proposing in some songs the masks created by Peter Gabriel (as for example in the legendary "The Musical Box") but also surprising the audience with masks and Real Dream creation gestures that Genesis fans welcomed with enthusiasm.
Currently the band is engaged in a National tour which, starting from Chiavari, will bring them, after Milan, to touch Genoa, Foligno, Turin, Verona, Grosseto and other Italian cities.
La current lineup:
Paolo Tenerini (Voice)
Andrea Orlando (Drums)
Tiziano Tacchella (Guitar)
Paolo Viccinelli (Bass, Bass Pedal, 12-string guitars)
Alessandro La Corte (Keyboards)
