Buster is a 1988 British romantic comedy based on the real-life events of the "Great Train Robbery".

He is portrayed by Phil Collins, Julie Walters, Larry Lamb and Sheila Hancock.

Watch the original trailer:

Buster Edwards (Phil Collins) is a 1963 London East End petty criminal. His patient wife June (Julie Walters) considers him a lovable scoundrel.

Buy the film:

"Buster: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" is the soundtrack of the film. Contains two Collins singles that topped the singles chart of the Billboard Hot 100.

Buy it (in the various versions):

The album is essentially a collection of old songs, with two songs by Phil Collins that were recorded specifically for the film.

"Two Hearts" won a Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Movie or Television in 1989, un Golden Globe for best original song (paired with "Let the River Run" from Carly Simon's Working Girl) as well as one nomination to the Oscar for the best original song.

"A Groovy Kind of Love" and with a nomination ai Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance is the remake of a song raised to # 2 on the UK Singles Chart in 1965 by The Mindbenders.

Both came out as singles and made it to the top of the rankings Billboard Hot 100, with "A Groovy Kind of Love" which also reached No.XNUMX in the UK.

Other songs include Collins '"Big Noise" and Four Tops' "Loco in Acapulco", co-written by Collins. At the 1989 Brit Awards he won for Soundtrack / Cast Recording, while Collins received the award British Male Artist for the soundtrack.

"Two Hearts" and "A Groovy Kind of Love" were not released on a Phil Collins solo album until "... Hits" in 1998.

Live versions appeared on the album "Serious Hits ... Live!" of 1990.

Remember Phil Collins in his autobiography:

... that the soundtrack, like the whole film, sails in troubled waters. The producers want the full actor / singer / songwriter package, but Phil isn't willing to give up. They will only have the actor.

"Two Hearts" is inserted in the credits and then Phil agrees to sing it.

In "A Groovy Kind of Love" Phil's voice was supposed to be only in a demo, which, however, when inserted into a scene of the film as a test, works so well that Collins has to give in.

"I just had to blow up those damn doors and instead I find myself with yet another single at number one in England and America, plus a lot of criticism for having recorded another cover of light music from the 60s, however much it was. just a cinematic project ", Phil remembers.

Watch the making of the film:

The reception of the film was not unanimous.

The protagonists' performances were appreciated but the tone of the film was criticized.

In particular, the romanticization of crime was not accepted and the film was branded as amoral, a fun but fairytale-like view of breaking the law.

For this reason, Prince Charles and Princess Diana canceled their presence at the film's premiere on September 15, 1988, on the advice of Phil Collins. Collins said he wanted to avoid causing them embarrassment.

A stage version of Buster was staged between 2000 and 2004 in various locations across the UK with (among others) Ray Quinn in the main cast.

"In The Air Tonight"by Phil Collins, the video reaches 100 million views on May 11, 2010:

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am
Well I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies
And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well I remember, I remember, don't worry, how could I ever forget
It's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, oh no you don't fool me
Well the hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you and me
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord

Here is the press release from La Presse:

The film celebrates the XNUMXth anniversary of the release of "So", the album that launched Peter Gabriel's solo career towards global success.

Directed by the Bafta Award winner Hamish Hamilton, the film takes up one of the stages of the Back to Front Tour, that of October 2013 at 02 in London, and was previewed at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival.

In live, Gabriel finds the original band of his 1986 tour and joins classics such as Solsbury Hill, Digging in the Dirt, Sledgehammer, Mercy Street and Don't Give Up, with unpublished or reworked songs.

Hamilton, former director of live shows by the likes of The Rolling Stones, Madonna and U2, juxtaposes today's images with concerts from Gabriel's even remote past to celebrate one of the most innovative and influential artists of the modern era.

Peter Gabriel talks about the "Back to Front" tour:

The video follows the production of thealbum from its conception to the exit and reception of the public and critics.

It is a valuable document on Peter's creative process and a testament to the technology behind his work.

Peter Gabriel used unusual and avant-garde techniques in the early 80s for the time, but which have since become the standard methods of production and musical writing.

A frame of the documentary, from YouTube

A method which consists of search for interesting rhythms to sample in drum machines. Then Peter develops melodies and chords by improvising on these rhythms.

Today it is much easier to get the results Peter had in mind in 1982. Then the technology available required many registration steps.

An important aspect is the sampling, in nature, of acoustic elements that can be used as percussion or sounds of any kind. Thus the sound of the wind blowing through a tube, discovered by accident, becomes the distinctive feature of San Jacinto. Or a looped doorbell produces the basis for Rhythm of the Heat.

And then the melody creation, already experimented with the Genesis, through the recording and improvisation of the voice, without words and the subsequent adaptation of the lyrics to the melodies and not vice versa.

I mean, for Peter the sounds and arrangements do not serve to "decorate" the piece in the composition, but are the essential part.

All this can be seen in this extraordinary document. There he is:
