Peter Gabriel makes his NTS debut next week with two guest radio shows, presenting a mix of his favourite artists from this year’s WOMAD festival.
WOMAD Festival takes place 25-28 July at Charlton Park near Malmesbury, Wiltshire.
This year’s festival includes appearances by Ziggy Marley, Macy Gray, Salif Keita, Anna Calvi, Orbital, Saving Grace feat. Suzi Dian & Robert Plant and many more.
An iconic WOMAD performance:
5/6/1989, the label launched with the release of Passion and four other albums which showcased beautiful and unusual music by artists from across the world, including the legendary Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
To mark the milestone, Real World has announced the release of Nusrat's historic first gig at WOMAD Festival in 1985, which was the beginning of his relationship with Peter and Real World.
Live at WOMAD 1985 will be released on 26 July alongside the long-awaited vinyl re-issue of his final album for the label, the Grammy-nominated collaboration with Canadian guitarist/producer Michael Brook, Night Song.
Also released on 26 July is a new compilation album, Worldwide: 30 Years of Real World Music. Celebrating three decades of discovery and enlightenment, this window into Real World music traces a path from Tanzania to China, Ireland to Tibet, Colombia to Papua New Guinea. The label has chosen tracks that opened our minds and hearts to sounds from all around our planet— an enriching and joyous experience.
